Anyone know about Henna Tattoos?

Hey me And my mates are getting henna done,
I was just wanting some information like
do you get to choose what pattern?
Can they come to your house?
Is it Expensive?
How long does it last?
How long does it take?
etc
Also i didnt think it hurt but someone said that it can hurt- is that true!

They can come to your house if you want them too, but if is probably safer if you visit them at a salon.

They usually have a big book of patterns which you can look through

Prices will vary on size/pattern etc, they aren't usually very expensive, around £5 ( sorry, im English) they are a similar price abroad too.


Takes about 15mins to do, again, depending on size and the skill pf the tattooist, then you have to leave the henna to dry and then you can wash it off a while later (make sure you dont get it wet or knock it!!)

As for pain; it is supposed to be completely pain free as it is like someone painting with a thick clay and piping it on your arm. The are no injections or anything! However, allergies to henna are very common, especially black henna (there is black and brown, brown is more natural and less reactions)

When i was 11, i got a black henna tattoo whilst on holiday. It scared my skin and burnt it, and now i am left with a very faint scar or a dolphin (i was 11, and liked dolphins at the time, lol)
Its not obvious unless i point it out, but damn it was painful. My brother is also allergic to black henna, he got his tattoo at a different time to me when he was about 9 years old, on a different holiday, so we know it wasnt just a dodgy henna! He has a very faint scar of a snake down his leg!

Just becareful, get a skin test first on a small bit of your skin, as it is very painful when it blisters when you are allergic!

They are a fun painless way of decorating your body, and alot of brown henna is used in india ( i have had an indian brown henna hand tattoo and didnt react) and can look really cool/pretty!

Are henna tattoos safe?

Henna is completely safe, provided you make sure it is 100% pure henna. Stay as far away as possible from anyone trying to use black or coloured henna. Henna is only ever one colour, a reddish brown (starts out orangy) anything else either has rubbish chemicals added to it, or isn't henna at all.

What is henna tattoo?

 People mention it alot but i dont know if there is needles involved, or if its just an ink. Do you have to go out to get it done or can you buy it?

Firstly henna isn't a tattoo. It is a temporary stain on the top layers of skin, which is achieved by putting henna paste on top of your skin. A tattoo involves using a needle to push ink to the very bottom layers of skin.

In some instances a henna artist may use a blunted syringe to apply henna to the skin, but that is all, it is never invasive.

The henna paste used is made from the dried and crushed leaves of the henna plant (Lawsonia inermis) which then has a normally acidic liquid (ie lemon juice) added to it. The stain ranges in colour from orange to a dark reddish brown, dependant on the age of the stain, and the dye content of the henna.

There are henna artists all around the world who you can hire to henna you and your friends, or you can buy your own and learn how to henna. Never ever use so called "black henna" it isn't real henna and often contains chemicals like PPD which can cause huge allergic reactions leading to open wounds, permanent scarring and respiratory arrest leading to death.

A henna tattoo is a design that is painted onto the surface of the skin with plant dye. It dyes the top few layers of your skin, so the design is still there even after the paint is gone! It typically lasts 1-3 weeks, with an average of about 10 days.

The person answering this question before me is mistaken, however, when they say that henna is available in different colors. The henna plant has only one dye molecule, the lawsone molecule, and the color that it dyes is somewhere in the orange-red-brown family. Most often, on most parts of the body, a good fresh henna dye will leave a brown stain. Stale henna tends to leave an orange stain. For those who like a little glitz but don't want permanent body art, temporary tattoos might appear to be a good hedge. However, you might want to reconsider getting that temporary tattoo after a warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The agency has issued a new health warning regarding these temporary skin ornaments, according to Fox News. An FDA spokesperson indicated that while this form of temporary art -- designed to last from a few days to several weeks -- isn't injected into a person's skin, it carries some health risks.

How long the tattoo lasts depends on the product used and the condition of your skin. The FDA explains that temporary tattoos sold as "henna" go directly on the skin's surface, where they can cause a number of adverse reactions.

Among them are redness, blisters, heightened sensitivity to sunlight, pigmentation issues, permanent scarring, and raised red and weeping lesions. Some of these serious reactions last a long time and/or require a trip to the emergency room. Although some occur right after getting the art, some happen up to three weeks after the fact.

I have heard by several people that the color of dreamcatcher has meanings to it. Like the different colored beads have meanings and that different feathers used have different meanings as well. I was wondering if someone could tell me the different meanings of each color and feather.
